It was compiled by Ulrich Thieme and Felix Becker between 1907 and 1950.
Vollmer (6 volumes) is the supplement to the Thieme-Becker dictionary, covering approx.
50,000 artists of the 20th century painters, engravers, sculptors and architects in a brief,
informative format, listing birth/death date(s), place of birth, schooling, and works, plus a
bibliography for each artist when available.
It was compiled by Hans Vollmer between 1953 and 1962.
Both Standard works are essential for the professional art collector;
to be demanded in every library or art institute.
This 42 volumes Standardwork is now again available as a very reasonable paperback
version.
